What does the prefix hyper- mean?
The prefix hyper- is a Greek prefix. There are many words that have the prefix hyper-: hypersensitive, hyperlipidemia, hyperinflation, hyperextension, hyperventilate, hyperconscious, hyberbole, hyperthermia, etc. Knowing the prefix hyper- allows one to know the meaning of many words. As an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of reviewing prefixes, root words, and suffixes.
