Author’s Purpose

As an ASVAB tutor in teaching my ASVAB prep course,  make sure to discuss the different types of questions that appear on the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB.  One type of question is author’s purpose.  Author’s purpose is the reason the author wrote the piece.  When looking at his main purpose, we need to decide the true reason the piece was written.  Do you know the author’s purpose in an advertisement for a car?  Even though I place more emphasis on providing ASVAB math and vocabulary help than reading comprehension help in my classes, I do not want my students to overlook the importance of the Paragraph Comprehension section as well.
