Arithmetic Reasoning

Today I present a ratio question.  If there is a 6:4 ratio of chickens to ducks, and there are 36 chickens, how many ducks are there?  Do you know how to solve this problem?

As an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of being able to work with ratios.  Ratios are one of the 15 subtopics I cover in my review of Arithmetic Reasoning in my ASVAB prep course.  Some ratio problems are solved as proportions while others are solved as sums.  Ratios are very similar to proportion problems in most cases.  In this case there is a 6:4 ratio of chickens to ducks, so there are more chickens than ducks.  If there are 36 chickens, that means there are less than 36 ducks which helps with elimination of incorrect responses.  Do you know how to solve this problem?  I will present the answer and explanation tomorrow.
