Jack buys gas for $3.50 a gallon. His car gets 20 mpg. How much will a trip of 600 miles cost?
In working as an ASVAB tutor, I review the topic of miles per gallon with the students in my ASVAB prep course. Miles per gallon questions appear on the Arithmetic Reasoning section of the exam. Many of my students do not know how to solve this type of problem when I meet them. Some people mistakenly think that this problem is a proportion problem. Miles per gallon problems are not proportions. Do you know how to solve this problem?
