Army Reserves’ Birthday April 23
As an ASVAB tutor, I see the value in presenting various military holidays, observances, and anniversaries in my blog.
Today, April 23, is the Army Reserves’ Birthday.
The United States Army Reserves was founded on April 23, 1908. Every year, this day is set to commemorate the Army Reserves contributions to World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, etc. On April 23, 1908, Congress organized a group of 160 doctors to form the Medical Reserve Corps. This group had the goal to provide the nation with a team of professional medical practitioners in times of national emergencies. The following month, President Theodore Roosevelt, signed the bill to be law. In 1920, the National Defense Act was passed when the Organized Reserves for officers was created by Congress. Army Reservists are not full-time members of the U.S. military and can have a full-time career in the civilian word in addition to their career in the military.
