Arithmetic Reasoning

In working as an ASVAB tutor, many of the students in my ASVAB prep course have a difficult time with the topic of measurement.  Measurement is one of the 15 subtopics that I review when I do ASVAB tutoring.

Today I presented an Arithmetic Reasoning problem that deals with measurement.

The question is:

If a piece of wood is 8ft 4 in. long and needs to be cut into 4 pieces, how long is each piece?

  1. 2 ft
  2. 2 ft 1 in.
  3. 2 ft 2 in.
  4. 2 ft 4 in.

In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to know how many inches are in a foot.

Do you know how to solve this problem?

I will present the answer and explanation tomorrow.
