Arithmetic Reasoning Question

In working as an ASVAB tutor, I focus very heavily on Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge. Arithmetic Reasoning focuses on the word problems in math while Mathematics Knowledge focuses on algebra and geometry.  One of the subtopics I focus on in Arithmetic Reasoning is percentages. I remind the students in my ASVAB prep course of the importance of knowing how to work with percentages.

Today I present an Arithmetic Reasoning question on percentages.

The question is:

Out of 20 attempts, a basketball player scores 8 times.

What percent of his chances did he score?

  1. 8%
  2. 16%
  3. 32%
  4. 40%
