Arithmetic Reasoning Answer
In working as an ASVAB tutor, I review percentages as part of my review of Arithmetic Reasoning. Yesterday I presented an Arithmetic Reasoning question on percentage.
The question is:
What percent of 80 is 60?
- 34%
- 68%
- 75%
- 33%
To solve this problem, it is best to set up a proportion.
I remind my students of the importance of this formula
is/of = %/100
Decide where to put each piece.
What percent of 80 is 60?
60 is “is”
80 is “of”
The percent is what is missing.
Set up the proportion.
60/80 = x/100
60/80 can reduce to 6/8.
6/8 = x/100
Cross multiply and solve for x.
8x = 600
Divide by 8.
600 divided by 8 = 75.
The answer is Choice C. 75%.
