Arithmetic Reasoning Answer
Reviewing the two systems of measurement, imperial and metric, is a critical part of preparing for the Arithmetic Reasoning section of the ASVAB. In working as an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of knowing the conversion of both systems. Knowing the conversion of length, weight, liquid measurement is important. In preparing for the ASVAB, it is important to be aware of the conversions for the imperial system which includes inches, feet, yards, miles, ounces, tons, pounds, cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. It is also important to know the conversion for the metric system which includes millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers, milligrams, grams, etc.
Yesterday I presented an Arithmetic Reasoning question on measurement.
This question is about metric measurement.
The question is:
How many centimeters are there is 5 meters?
- 5 cm
- 50 cm
- 500 cm
- 5000 cm
The Latin root centi- means hundred.
There are 100 centimeters in a meter.
Since 1 meter equals 100 centimeters, 5 meters equals 500 centimeters.
The correct answer is Choice C. 500 cm.
