Arithmetic Reasoning

The conversion of percentages, fractions, and decimals is one of the 15 subtopics I cover in my review of Arithmetic Reasoning.  As an ASVAB Tutor, I remind my students of the importance of knowing how to convert percents, fractions, and decimals.  Yesterday I presented an Arithmetic Reasoning question which involves the conversion of a fraction to a decimal.

The question is:

Change the fraction 4/7 into a decimal.

  1. 47
  2. 571
  3. 74
  4. 75

Do you know how to change a fraction into a decimal?

In order to change a fraction into a decimal, you need to divide the denominator into the numerator.

4 divided by 7 becomes 4.00 divided by 7.

The answer is B. 0.571

Make sure to review long division because long division is necessary in the conversion of fractions to decimals.

Did you know how to make these conversions?
