Yesterday I presented the prefix be-.

Do you know what the prefix be- means?

Be- means completely.  Knowing one prefix can expand your knowledge of vocabulary.  One prefix might be seen in 15 or 20 different words.  Knowing the meaning of the prefix is a great help in figuring out the meaning of an unknown word, especially on a multiple-choice test.  Here are examples of words with the prefix be-: bedazzle, befall, beloved, begotten, behold, bejewelled, belabor, belie.  In working as an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of knowing the meaning of Latin and Greek prefixes, root words, and suffixes in order to boost their vocabulary score on the ASVAB.
