Answer to Yesterday’s Math Knowledge Question
Yesterday’s question presented an example of PEMDAS also known as order of operations. As an ASVAB tutor, I make sure to review the topic of order of operations in my ASVAB prep course. This is one of the topics that I cover in my book on Mathematics Knowledge. Knowing how to work with PEMDAS can help to improve your ASVAB math score in the area of Mathematics Knowledge.
The proper order of operations is Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication or Division whichever comes first, and Addition or Subtraction whichever comes first. I want people to remember that Multiplication and Division are completed from left to right whichever comes first. In this example division comes before multiplication so the division needs to be completed first.
10 ¸ 2 x 5
In this situation, divide first, then multiply.
10 ¸ 2 is 5
Then 5 x 5 = 25.
The final answer is 25.
Did you know how to solve this one?
