Paragraph Comprehension

Yesterday’s post was a question about author’s purpose.  Do you know the author’s purpose in writing an advertisement about a political candidate?  Was the main purpose to inform, to persuade, to entertain or to encourage?  The author’s purpose in writing an advertisement about a political candidate is to persuade.  The goal is to convince the reader to vote for the political candidate in the advertisement.  As an ASVAB tutor, I emphasize the importance of understanding author’s purpose.  Some of the most common types of author’s purpose are to inform, to entertain, and to persuade.
