Yesterday I presented a Paragraph Comprehension question. The question asked you to identify the type of question a particular reading comprehension question was.
The question was: Why did the author write this piece?
Do you know what type of question this is?
This question is a question about author’s purpose. The author’s purpose is the reason the author wrote the piece. Every author has a reason for writing the piece he wrote. In my ASVAB prep course, I present the most common purposes that an author has for writing a piece. In working as an ASVAB tutor, I understand that understanding what type of question each Paragraph Comprehension question is plays an important role in one’s score on the reading section of the ASVAB. I spend the majority of class time working to help improve my students’ ASVAB math scores, but I make sure to discuss tips for Paragraph Comprehension and review 20-30 ASVAB vocabulary words in each session.
