Word Knowledge

In working as an ASVAB tutor, I teach my students of the importance of reviewing Latin and Greek roots in working on the Word Knowledge section of the ASVAB.  Aster- is one of the Latin root words in my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension Study Guide.  The prefix aster- means star.

Asterisk is a small starlike symbol used in writing as a reference.

Asteroid is a small rocky celestial body found between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

Asterism is a prominent pattern or group of stars that are smaller than a constellation.

Asterias is the scientific name for a certain family of sea stars.
