Patterns and Sequences
Yesterday I presented a question on patterns and sequences.
Do you know what number comes next in the following sequence:
2, -3, 0, -5, _____
The topics of patterns and sequences is an important topic in ASVAB math. I make sure to include it in my ASVAB prep course. In working as an ASVAB tutor, I see a number of people that experience difficulty in working with patterns. Some people find patterns difficult especially when the patterns include negative numbers, fractions, or mixed numbers.
In this case, did you know what number came next.
The pattern is 2, -3, 0, -5, ____
2 to -3 went down by 5
-3 to 0 went up by 3
0 to -5 went down by 5.
Down 5, up 3, down 5, the next number should be up 3.
-5 up 3 would lead to the answer of -2.
