Yesterday I presented a question on percentage.  Do you know how to solve this problem?  25 is 50% of what number?  Percentages are an important topic on the Arithmetic Reasoning section of the ASVAB.  This problem can be set up as a proportion.

Is/of = %/100

25 is 50% of what number.

25 is the “is”.

50% is the percent.

The missing part is the “of”.

Is/of = %/100

25/x = 50/100

Cross multiply and solve

50x = 2500

x = 50

The answer is 50.
