Word Knowledge

Yesterday I presented a question about root words.  Do you know the meaning of the root word mand- or mend-?  Mand- or mend- comes from Latin and means order.  There are a number of words with the root word mand- or mend-.  These words include command, commandment, commend, mandate, mandatory, countermand, commander, etc.  Knowing this root word opens up the potential of understanding many words.  As an ASVAB tutor, I remind the students in my class of the importance of reviewing root words to expand their vocabularies.

Never underestimate the benefit of knowing common and Latin and Greek root words.
