Paragraph Comprehension

Yesterday I presented a question about techniques that help with reading comprehension.

Which choice does not help with reading comprehension?

Read the questions before the story.

Read all the answer choices.

Base your answer on our own opinions.

Do not leave any answer blank.

In working with an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of reading the questions before the story.  In reading the questions before the story, it prepares the mind to search for the desired information and helps to prevent the need to reread the story to find the answers.  It is also essential to read all the answer choices to select the best answer.  No answer should be left blank on the test.  The choice that does not help with reading comprehension is to base the answer on your own opinions.  Never base the answer on your own opinion.  The answer needs to come from the story.  Did you answer this question correctly?
