Yesterday I presented a question about area and perimeter.  If the perimeter of a square is 20, what is its area?  In order to solve this problem, it is important to know how to find area and perimeter of a square.  I included the necessary formulas in my book entitled, The ASVAB Tutor’s Mathematics Knowledge Study Guide.  In order to solve this problem, it is important to figure out the length of each side of the square.  A square has 4 sides.  If the perimeter is 20, in order to figure out the measure of each side, divide 20 by 4.  20 divided by 4 is 5.

Each side of the square measures 5.  The next step is to figure out the area of the square.  The formula for the area of a square is side x side.  If one side is 5, then the area is 5 x 5.

The answer is 25.  Did you know how to solve this problem?
