Word Knowledge

Yesterday I presented the prefix di-.  Do you know what the prefix di- means?

As an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of reviewing Greek and Latin prefixes, root words, and suffixes.

Yesterday I presented a post on the Greek prefix di-.  Di- means two or twice.  There are many words that contain the Greek prefix di- meaning two or twice.

Dichotomy is a division or contrast between two things that are different.

Dichromatic means having two colors

Digraph is a combination of two letters that represent one sound

Diverge means to separate from another route to go in a different direction

Digress means to wander from the main topic temporarily in speaking or writing.

Dilemma is a situation in which a difficult choice must be made between two or more alternative, usually negative ones.

Knowing the Greek prefix di- can help to advance one’s vocabulary by helping to understand the meaning of multiple words.
