ASVAB Mathematics Knowledge Answer to Question on Slope

Mathematics Knowledge

Yesterday I presented a question on slope.  Do you know the slope of the line y = 5x – 3?

In my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Mathematics Knowledge Study Guide, I review 15 subtopics.  One of these subtopics is angles and slope.  The equation in today’s question is presented in the slope-intercept form of a line.  The standard slope-intercept form of a line is y = mx + b.

The m represents the slope, and the b represents the y-intercept.  The slope is the steepness of the line.  The y-intercept is the point where the line crosses the y-axis.

In the line y = 5x-3, the slope is 5 and the y-intercept is -3.

Did you know how to solve this problem?
