Arithmetic Reasoning

Yesterday I presented a question on sales tax which requires working with percentages.

The question was: If sales tax is 8.5%, how much is the sales tax on a table that costs $150?

One of the topics that I cover in my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Arithmetic Reasoning Study Guide is percentages.  Working with sales tax involves working with percentages.  In order to figure out the sales tax, it is necessary to change the percent to a decimal first.

8.5% = .085

The next step is the multiply $150 x .085 = $12.75

The sales tax is $12.75.

Did you know how to solve this problem?
