Arithmetic Reasoning
Yesterday I presented a question on patterns.
Do you know what comes next in the pattern?
1/6, 1/12, 1/18, _____
As an ASVAB tutor, I make sure to provide a review of patterns and sequences for my ASVAB students. This is one of the numerous topics I review for the Arithmetic Reasoning section of the ASVAB. Many people are overwhelmed by patterns and even more overwhelmed by patterns with fractions. This problem is not difficult when you analyze it piece by piece.
In looking at this pattern, it can be seen that the numerator is always 1.
The denominator is increasing, which means each fraction is smaller than the previous one.
The denominator increases by 6 in each case.
Another way to look at it is that the denominators are the multiples of 6.
The pattern for the denominators is 6, 12, 18…
The next denominator would be 24
The answer 1/24.
