Word Knowledge Question

In working as an ASVAB tutor, I present vocabulary words in every class except the classes where I do practice tests.  My book entitled, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension Study Guide, was written to review the two verbal sections of the ASVAB.  I present prefixes, root words, suffixes, vocabulary words in context, and reading passages with comprehension questions to boost my students’ scores on the Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension sections of the ASVAB.  Today I present an ASVAB vocabulary word for review.  The word is “ambidextrous”.  This is one of many words that can appear on the Word Knowledge section of the ASVAB.

The question is:

What does ambidextrous mean?

  1. Can live on land or water
  2. Equally skilled in using both hands
  3. Left-handed
  4. Unclear

The word “ambidextrous” contains the Latin prefix “ambi”.  Do you know what the Latin prefix ambi- means?  Knowing the prefix can help with understanding the meaning of the word “ambidextrous”.  I will present the meaning of this word tomorrow in a video.
