Air Force Reserves Birthday
As an ASVAB tutor, I take time to recognize a variety of military holidays, observances, and anniversaries. Today is one of these dates. Today, April 14, is the Air Force Reserves’ Birthday. President Harry S. Truman formally established the Air Force Reserves on this date in 1948.
Every year on April 14, the Air Force Reserve celebrates its birthday. According to the Air Force’s official site, the roots of the Air Force Reserve go all the way back to the National Defense Act of 1916. The mission of the Air Force Reserve was to provide combat-ready forces to ‘Fly, Fight, and Win’. Reservists are not full-time members of the Air Force. Reservists can serve in the military while having full-time civilian jobs. Air Force Reservists are fully deployable and mission-ready and are ready to be mobilized within 72 hours. Training includes one weekend per month and two weeks of training per year. The Air Force Reservists provide additional support to the full-time Air Force when it is needed.
