Word Knowledge Video

In working as an ASVAB tutor, I remind the students in my ASVAB prep course of the importance of building their vocabulary skills to improve their scores on Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension.  I review over 500 ASVAB vocabulary words in my book and in my course.  Yesterday I presented an ASVAB vocabulary word that is one of the books I review in class and in my book.  This word is one of many that can appear on the Word Knowledge section of the ASVAB.  The word is “abscond”.

The question is:

What does the word “abscond” mean?

A. To kidnap

B. To leave quickly

C. To lie

D. To joke

To show the meaning of the word, I present my cat, Mr. Cuddles®, in a video.  Thanks to an app that makes it seem like he can talk, I created a video for this vocabulary word.  The sentences in the video provide context clues to the word’s meaning.

In the video, Mr. Cuddles® says, “It was my job to track down the bank robber who decided to abscond with all the money.  He decided to run away and try to hide.”  The meaning of “abscond” is to leave quickly.  The correct answer is Choice B. To leave quickly
