This post is about a former student of my ASVAB prep course. I remember her from years ago when her big dream was to join the U.S. Army. She was a dedicated student and was highly motivated. She had tried other ASVAB tutors, but she told me that I was able to help her with the ASVAB math in a way unlike the other tutors she met. She said that I had made the math simpler and easier to understand. Her confidence level in her math ability increased quickly. She studied all the materials I presented her with and then some. The day finally came for her to take the ASVAB. I reminded her that I knew she would pass. At the end of the day, I received the excited call. “I did it! I passed the ASVAB, Julie. Thanks to you.” She took on the job of Human Resources Specialist. The years go by so quickly. She is now a Sergeant who keeps me informed of all her achievements. The recent text I received contained the news that she had completed her Associate’s degree with honors. Thinking back, I remember a girl whose first job was working in fast food restaurant. Now I look at her and see an Army Sergeant with an Associate’s under her belt and a Bachelor’s degree before her. Her education has been paid for by the U.S. military. It is amazing the different course your life can take after passing one exam like the ASVAB. Never underestimate what the ASVAB can do for your life.
