Word Knowledge

Yesterday I presented a question about a root word.  The root word is morph-.

Do you know what morph- means?  The Greek root word morph- means shape.  There are many words with the Greek root word morph-.  Knowing that morph- means shape can help you to understand the meaning of many difficult words.  Metamorphosis means shape change.

Amorphous means not having a fixed shape.  Polymorph means to change into many shapes. Anthropomorphic means human-shaped.  Morpheme means the shape words take.  There are many other words with the root morph-.  I remind the students that I tutor for the ASVAB that knowing just one root word can help them to understand up to 15 or 20 new words.  Make sure to study Latin and Greek root words to boost your ASVAB vocabulary score.
